2015 Year in Review

This was how my year began.
On the 7th of January notorious conman and personal friend Dustin Mitchell accused me of getting him fired from his job.

On the 8th of January I revealed that Desmond Johnson, well-known in the Grove before committing suicide three years earlier, was alive and well living in Northern California. While he did hang himself and the police did find a dead body, paramedics revived him. After waking from a coma his family whisked him away from St. Louis, and he laid low until my interview.

Many in the Grove were livid, claiming my piece was biased against Johnson's ex, who recruited a local hothead known as Gassy to exact revenge. Gassy was able to get my Facebook shut down for a few days, but the main harassment was aimed at writer Donald Miller.

My post on January 12:

It occurred to me that I've been rude by not responding in a serious manner to Convicted Felon Dustin Mitchell's countless threats of litigation. My flippant and comical replies had to be a blow to the ego of someone who was once the most feared man in our community, and for that I apologize.

To make things right, and to show due reverence, I've had my attorney, Joseph Paul Smith, draft this letter.

You're watching Andoetainment.

January 13

The hostility towards Desmond Johnson was so intense that he deleted his account. I felt I needed to do more and say more about the topic of domestic violence, so I came forward with my own story, published in Vital Voice.

Grammy nominee Frenchie Davis was flown in to perform at FIVE, Vital Voice's anniversary party, and I was privileged to interview her.

January 17

I took a trip to Collinsville Illinois to find the home of late mobster Buster Wortman.

...and while I was at it I explored East St. Louis and found the house where Ike & Tina Turner once lived.

January 19

I felt homesick for San Francisco when Huffington Post ran a piece about my favorite Tenderloin dive bar. One of the queens featured was my prom date.

January 23

With his Arizona congressional campaign already underway, Dustin Mitchell announces the launch of his solar company.

January 26

FIVE was a huge success. Pictured with the testosterone-fueled bad boy of St. Louis, Nicholas Edward.

January 27

I wrote a piece about Club Bath's sexy new manager and got to the bottom of the mystery man who was on a mission to shut them down.

January 28

Penned a widely-read piece about the San Francisco housing crisis for AMERICAblog.com.

January 29

January 30

I set out to find the bitterest bitch in St. Louis, and I found him. Nominees were able to simply opt out if they weren't interested, and the winner was to get a campy feature article. The bitterest however, didn't want to opt out or in, but instead opted to spew bitterness at the mere idea of such a contest. I didn't announce his name or write the article, I just backed away slowly.

January 31

On a lazy Saturday I decided to take Meeshu on a Great River Road adventure, and we stopped in Alton to eat at Fast Eddies. It was in Alton I met Kage, and in a moment reminiscent of Garden State he came on the adventure with us. We stopped to explore a cave, and at the mouth of the cave we kissed.

February 2

I'm one of the last in town to learn about the Pie Guy. He hits guys up asking if they'll let him throw pies in their faces. Me and "Maestro of Memes" Josh Jordan offer to let him pie us in exchange for an interview, but he declined.

February 16 Status Update

Last week was the wildest ride I've had in a while. Things got serious with an exciting love interest, I had two evening events on weeknights, which is rare for me and resulted in little sleep, I had obligations to house/dog/cat sit and pick up a friend from the airport, had to make Mardi Gras preparations while worrying about the weather, and plan to flash mob Denny Fiske & Chris Kerr's wedding with the Love Boat theme song.
Layered over all this was a disturbed and disgruntled gas station attendant threatening my close friends, the magazines and websites I write for, and vowing to ruin things with my fiancé who doesn't even exist.

This all resulted in the first case of writer's block in a long time, pushing me past deadline for two stories, but I'm happy to report that it's passed, and I'm ready to churn out Andoetainment.

February 22

In the early part of 2015 the Dark Mistress, which was Robyn Montague's angry, drunken alter-ego, would come out late a night to read folks. I loved her, but later in the year she left us. While I miss the Dark Mistress, I know my friend Robyn is happy and healthier without her.

May 18

Stefene Russell, Culture Editor for St. Louis Magazine, writes a glowing review of my book ending with, "Chris Andoe has already been crowned Emperor of St. Louis, but if there is any justice in the world, he'll also be coronated as one of its finest, funniest writers."

May 25

Paul Hagan, the NYC-based Editor-in-chief for Metrosource, writes the forward for Delusions of Grandeur:

When I first met Chris Andoe, he struck me as a writer who was overflowing with ideas and possessed of an extraordinary desire to share life’s undiscovered stories, preserving a world of fabulousness before it could fade. I didn’t know the half of it.

My first clue that there was more to Mr. Andoe than had initially met my eye came when I noticed that his Facebook feed was far from the average parade of re-shared memes and questionably-angled selfies.

Chris’s writing - in particular his chronicles of the goings on in and around St. Louis - had the urgency of an embedded journalist in a war zone. He had clear enemies and fervent allies who agitated for their downfall. He opened doors to a world of people with multiple aliases and secret identities, sinister perpetrators of long cons, and drag personalities who embody every aspect of the word legendary.

Delusions of Grandeur is the cream of this crop - a distillation of Chris’s exploits as an inciter of Bacchanalian revel and a muckraker of the seedy underbelly of the gay community. The maxim that truth is stranger than fiction may be worn out as an over-the-hill hooker, but there are times when the details in these stories are so deeply bizarre that truth is their only explanation. That said, it’s worth noting they’d be worth reading as fiction, anyway.

St. Louis has offered the world a variety of artistic gifts, from the Oprah-inspiring poetry of Maya Angelou to the scintillating star power of Tina Turner. But in choosing it as a playground and battlefield for his epic exploits, Chris Andoe has ensured for the city a twisted new chapter in our shared cultural history.

No wonder they call him “The Emperor.”

Think of the faces that define your city. Those iconic personalities: the entertainers, the organizers, the politicos, and now imagine your region has become so unlivable most of them begin a mass exodus alongside many of your friends and neighbors.

My friend Anna Conda was one of San Francisco's fiercest activists and most celebrated entertainers, but was forced out by the city's merciless gentrification. My interview.

June 3

Many people I know and respect lost their fucking minds over Caitlyn Jenner, arguing you had to support her completely or else they were unfriending. For a week or two even mentioning her atrocious politics was off limits. This inspired the following updates:

I'm getting alarmed by this Jenner litmus test and all the unfriending . No, people shouldn't be cruel or offensive but it's fair to point out she is a Republican and hasn't gone out of her way for LGBT rights until ten minutes ago, when it served her personally.
I'm happy for her and the attention she's garnered, but I respect differing opinions.
and
Is it lost anyone that our new civil war is based on which reality stars we support or oppose?

Kage's friend George Scanlon Jr. often entertained at his historic Alton home on Friday nights, and rather than drive 45 minutes back to St. Louis we would stay in one of his guest rooms. On this Saturday morning I woke before everyone else and walked Brawny on Christian Hill, overlooking the Mississippi. I was long drawn to the Alton and Great River Road area, but now had a group of friends there and loved it more than ever.

June 26

My statement on Marriage Equality

Marriage equality happened because queens rioted at Stonewall and during the White Night in San Francisco, then came out publicly at a time when that meant risking everything, then lobbied lawmakers, donated time and money to political campaigns, and voted, including voting for a supportive president who appointed progressive judges. And those who worked had to work even harder because of those in our community who were apathetic, who thought they were "sending a message" by not voting, or worse, were voting against us.
The amazing and unlikely confluence of events which led us here could never have happened without the tremendous amount of work and sacrifice from those who gave a damn.
While celebrating, please remember to thank those people and remember the ones who did not live to see this day.

July 1

" Not since Charles Bukowski have I found myself so submerged into the life and times of so many colorful characters. Acclaimed writer Chris Andoe brings a modern flair to such a missing style of literature today. I felt intrigued, enlightened, dirty, amused, outraged, betrayed and in awe of all that is Delusions Of Grandeur."

July 1

Nobody Likes Gassy

I referred to a group of local LGBT criminals as the Snake Pit, and Gassy thought of himself as the muscle of the group. As mentioned earlier he came after me to avenge Demond Johnson's ex, angry about me telling St. Louis Johnson was alive. Gassy was later joined by others including notoriously dishonest drag queen  Buttercotch and by Michael Haley, who has since been sent to prison for crashing into a state trooper and crushing his legs. Haley had shut down an east side strip club that morning, and his seeming indifference haunted the trooper's family. Haley regularly said his motto was "no apologies, no regrets."

Gassy was a disgruntled gas station attendant,  banned from most bars in town for assaulting patrons, but was best known for his headline-making arrest for going down on a small town sheriff.

Not knowing how to come after me directly, he instead gunned for friend and writer Donald Miller, a family man, by finding out where he worked sending harassing letters to his employer. He also tormented Miller with threatening phone calls while Miller was on vacation with his family.

Aside from getting my Facebook account pulled, the only thing he did to me was post drunken rants like the one below - which was posted after he followed his partner to Memphis.

I was tipped off about Gassy having a birthday party at a Benton Park bar earlier in the year and arrived a few hours in advance to ask the bartender to give him a card which read:

"Gassy, you're a horrible person and nobody likes you"
 - Everybody

I was sure he'd know it was me, but for some odd reason blamed friend Thomas Fortenberry.

 July 3

July was one of the biggest months of my life, with the book launch set for the 23rd and reactions already coming in from some of the characters, including Robyn Carolyn Montague, AKA "Rita Revlon" in Delusions of Grandeur.

Rita? RITA? ... What kinda name is that? Never heard of a gun-toting mama called 'Rita' ... yeah, shameless plug for the book ... after all, it perpetuates my legendary status ...

July 9

July 12

Monsoon season finally passed and summer set in, meaning we spent most Sundays poolside at the elegant Tower Grove South home of Chris Kerr and Denny Fiske.

July 14
Cutting it  crazy close, I wait for the proof copy of Delusions to arrive. UPS said the driver couldn't find my address and would try again tomorrow, so I tell them to hold it and I'd pick it up that evening. I arrived and for ten minutes they couldn't find it. Finally it was handed to me, and felt like my first child. The proof copy was filled with formatting issues that needed correcting, but I loved it. I made my notes for Grant at Vital Voice, and the launch order was made with delivery set for THE DAY OF THE EVENT. We were really worried we may have a $30 per person launch with no books.
At the launch I read excerpts from the proof copy, and then I donated it to the St. Louis LGBT History Project.

July 21

July 22

With one day to spare the shipment arrives, and the event is sold out.

July 23
The launch is a success.
Guests are shocked and Darin Slyman runs out the door when the infamous Dustin Mitchell shows up.

Readers react...

Not everyone was happy. Late in the evening we arrived to Keypers to meet Jolene and saw that Buttercotch was there, but she quickly left. Then...

Went to see the remains of the Bavinger House. The eccentric man who lived there thought the University of Oklahoma killed his elderly mother while a patient at OU Medical Center, and was coming after him in order to seize the architectural marvel, so he claimed to have destroyed it.
The official line pushed by OU is the house was destroyed in a storm, which makes one wonder what the real story is.
My brother took me to visit the Bavingers many years ago, and I was allowedto roam the incredible house.

One-hour interview on Garrett Miller's Hollywood-based radio show.

October 1

October was by far the most turbulent month of the year, and there was little doubt that would be the case from day one.

Rehab co-owner Jim Weckmann sold his half of the bar and Rehab's grande diva Akasha Royale announced a farewell roast. I was on the panel of roasters, as was Mikey Berner - Desmond Johnson's ex.
Nine months after my revelation that Desmond Johnson was alive, many in the Grove were still angry.

Speaking of anger, Gassy, now an unemployed Memphis house husband, started a Facebook group devoted to covering Memphis in blue ribbons to show support for police officers. He added people to the group, and then in classic Gassy style, berated them.

October 5

My annual Halloween piece is out.

Jim Weckmann was known for his strong opinions, so in advance of his roast I wanted to give him room to let it rip, and he certainly did. On the 9th of October I warned St. Louis that the interview would go live in a few hours, and that it would knock wigs back.

I didn't know the half of it.

The reaction to that article was like nothing LGBT St. Louis had ever seen. Many loved it, many hated it, but everyone read it.

"Everyone, and I mean everyone mentioned in that piece is damn near a household name now!" exclaimed Mark Moore or Takemoorepics Photography.

Things started to jump the rails, however, when those loyal to Buttercotch vowed to disrupt the roast, and some threats went much farther. Butterscotch, who was only one of a dozen or so mentioned (Weckmann said she was bitter, nosey and forgettable) also encouraged people to go after Vital Voice

Of course Butterscotch had been after Vital Voice for some time, since her on-again-off-again partner founded a competing blog.

When after several days the controversy was still roiling, with threats to harm Weckmann's former bar Rehab, target Vital Voice, and force organizers to cancel Jim's party, I went into full damage control mode.

Butterscotch and the former associates fanning the flames wanted my head on a platter, so I gave it to them with a piece announcing my resignation.

My "departure" took much of the wind from the sails of the anti-Rahab-Vital Voice-Weckamnn Roast momentum, and the show did go on - and it was decidedly defiant with co-owner Victoria Rose bringing down the house with "Not Ready to Make Nice."

I kept a low profile until after the roast, and then I was back with a new base of operations and a viral celebrity interview

October 14

Andoetainment's own (yeah, I claim him) Dustin Mitchell made headlines last year when a St. Louis court granted him an injunction against Boca Raton-based Michael Hansen, CEO of a multilevel marketing company called DubLi. This summer a Florida court ruled in favor of Hansen, finding that the company had no affiliation with Mitchell, didn't defraud him, and owed him nothing. The court also ordered him to remove any posts to the contrary.

December

Bitterness consumes Buttercotch in December, and she melts down all over town. It first came to my attention when I heard of a scene she caused at Teighlor Demornay's holiday party.

Teighlor Demornay, Show Director at Bubby & Sissy's

She read Kenadie St. James for not joining her in denouncing me, Jim Weckamann, and Vital Voice during her campaign in October. She also said she felt betrayed and abandoned by the complete absence of established, high-profile performers like the iconic Krista Versace.

A-List performers like Krista Versace stayed out of Buttercotch's drama.

Butterscotch later caused a drunken scene at Just John, going off on Jolene Gotcha, and on my birthday she couldn't help but leave a bitter comment on a photo Jason Brooks posted.

"Doesn't she know that she's making herself look like a crazy person?" said a concerned friend.

Disgruntled queen declares war on Vital Voice

Former #boom contributor Michael Rockafellow, AKA "Butterscotch" has vowed to boycott any bar that distributes Vital Voice Magazine. Earlier this year Rockafellow expressed irritation about being overlooked for the publication's "Voice Your Choice" poll,
With #boom contributor J. Sanning weighing in.
and he's apparently still fuming over former Rehab owner Jim Weckmann's pre-roast exit interview where he named Rockafellow (among many others) as someone he would not miss in retirement.
"She likes to read folks for things that dont concern her and acts as if she is above everyone else around her... Butterscotch will do anything to attempt to make a name for himself. In my own words.....highly forgettable, mouthy, nosey, thinks his shit dont stink queen."
While others mentioned shrugged off Weckmann's parting thoughts, or planned to respond at the roast, the response from the furious Rockafellow  and his followers nearly forced Rehab to cancel the roast for security reasons.

Though I've never met Rockafellow, the fact I was on Vital Voice's roster seemed to be enough to draw his ire. He attempted to start a rumor that I made fun of people for being HIV positive, but removed the post after less than ten minutes after his own followers objected, knowing the accusation was demonstrably false.

I suspect his latest attack on Vital Voice (he's been heckling them online for some time) has nothing to do with the magazine, but instead involves his recent involvement with someone from Oklahoma City, where I have many readers and have hosted events. Maybe he was upset that his reputation preceded him.

Oklahoma City's famous Habana Inn

It's absurd for someone to enter the ring and then declare themselves bullied, which is why I've never made such a claim - despite the numerous attempts to get me pulled from rosters, or even being framed for a hostage crisis. It seems the critically important anti-bullying movement has been usurped by grown adults behaving badly, which is unfortunate.

Either own your position in the ring or get out of it. When people respond to your posts and actions it's not called bullying, it's called life.

BATTLING CANCER & A TROLL

Suzanne Jackson
Scrappy Suzanne Jackson has a lot on her plate. Owner of Bark Avenue, a pet grooming salon in a hardscrabble section of south St. Louis, she works to keep the doors open despite her location in a difficult neighborhood in order to put food on the table for her seven year old daughter - not to mention her five dogs, two cats, two lizards, parrot and a fish - all while going through chemotherapy for lung cancer.

As if all this isn't enough, she's also dealing with the St. Louis region's most noxious internet troll who is hellbent on destroying her.

It all began about a year ago when her client Stephen Martin vented about a friendship that soured with a man named Michael Javert. As an act of kindness Martin had sought to include the reclusive Javert in social activities, but before long Javert was tagging him in places he hadn't been, and when Javert learned of Martin's HIV status, he told him he had "the mark of Cain." When the friendship ended Javert sent letters to friends, employers, relatives, and landlords defaming Martin, and often called the police on Martin and his friends for numerous things including cyber bullying.

Martin recalled how it all began and offered some insight.

"Back in the day of gay.com he and I were enemies. He would antagonize folks about ridiculous things like wearing tank tops and having tattoos. He spoke of 'Mother' in a way reminiscent of Norman Bates and often 'dispatched reports' to the local 'constabulary.' He would do this from the comfort of his 'bed chamber.' He's very keen on the idea of law enforcement and may have actually been a security guard. He claims to have once been an officer in Florissant."

After being warned, Suzanne checked her own friends list and found Javert was a connection.

"He hadn't done anything to me at that point so I figured unfriending him might cause more problems, but he began posting rude things about the dogs I groomed, saying they looked malnourished. It was only getting worse so I unfreinded him.

Fast forward a year and Suzanne learned Javert was posting disparaging remarks about her and her business.

Because of the past experiences of her client and his friends, she began asking around - particularity in the LGBT community - and found he had trolled countless others including drag legend Dieta Pepsi.

"I am always a target of his. Anytime there's an article or news story about me he posts all kinds of vile and disgusting comments about me. He really is a mental case that needs professional help. I blocked him years ago." said Pepsi.

"Javert" wasn't his real name, but was just one of several he used, and it turns out he's an internet troll right out of central casting. He's unemployed, lives with his mother (reportedly in her basement, even!), and spends virtually all of his time trolling online.

The common wisdom is to not engage with a troll because they having nothing but time on their hands, but the little grooming business is all that she has, and she decided to attempt to reason with him. She contacted him on another one of his fake accounts.

Javert didn't respond directly, but, in typical troll fashion, he did post the following after Suzanne's email:

He then doubled down on his claims though this vageubook post.

And just to be classy...

Now it was war. Knowing that she was only the latest victim of his trolling, Suzanne did her homework and uncovered his real identity and address, then sent the following:

Like a cockroach when the kitchen light flips on, Javert is scrambling.
Suzanne's family react to her most recent diagnosis.

His latest posts are about finding out where I live, since I've asked him for comment, and about making police reports about everyone mentioning him.

This is Suzanne's second time facing down cancer, and she's determined to show him that she can defeat him and the cancer while saving her business and exposing him to the world as her gift to the community she loves.

The story is certainly not over, and I'll post updates as they arise.

Trolls hide in anonymity and live to harass and destroy, but, as Suzanne said, this time Javert picked on the wrong bitch.

***UPDATE with an additional quote from Stephen Martin***

"I just can't believe he is targeting her. Just because she is on my Facebook and tagged me or something. He recently paid $200 toward one of my best friend's dog's vet bill for a needed surgery. I was thankful, but not taking the bait. So since a good deed didn't get me to talk, he hopes this attack will get me to respond. He knows how cancer took my mother from me at 18. I almost wonder if that is why he chose Suzanne Jackson. I have PTSD induced paranoia, but with this guy it is totally possible. In any case, I am truly sorry this is going on."

***12/2/15 UPDATE***

Jarvis sent the following text to Stephen Martin:

Jarvis also made the following blog post to explain his side of the story, which I'm posting in its entirety:

It seems as if a blog has been posted about me in attempt to smear me.

First I will say, I did have a friendship with a person named Stephen. I met him online, a social media chat site. I had some rounds with that person, and I was aware of his HIV status, and I did reference "The Mark of Cain" long before I ever knew him, and it was likely after something was said about me, as I don't bite first.

As time went on, Stephen befriended me and I thought was a true friend. We had very much in common though it had the opposite effect on our lives. It brought him out, and it pushed me away, and made me not trust people and not like people and I told him what it was that caused that and I thought he understood me. He invited me to a party and introduced me to one of his best friends. I was uncomfortable at the party and I didn't stay too late, because I have to take care of two people and a dog that had special needs. Stephen walked me to my car and was very nice to me. Nicer than anyone had ever been to me. I thought for sure he wouldn't like me anymore, and I didn't engage anymore and let him contact me.

It wasn't long, Stephen was inviting me to go places with him and do things. Often we went to the Six Flags, which I was the one that always drove them in my car. It wasn't long after that, this Kody person came along and it seemed to change the dynamic with me and Stephen but, I tried to work with it. Stephen was my only friend at that point, and I thought I could trust him with anything and did. I told him things about me my dog didn't even know about. Something was off with his friend though, and I could sense he didn't like me. And by the way, Kody goes by several different names, as well but out of respect for him, and his privacy, I won't stoop to their level. It's also very illegal when they use one name, to out their true identity. Especially if they've had a job in a certain field. Stephen even got his license by me letting him use my car, and I even made him a key and let him drive whenever he wanted to. And I don't know what that tagging him in places we never been was about. I checked in on 4 squares. Couldn't check in unless physically there, and the only way it would tag him is if he approved the tag, and he didn't remove the tag until he unfriended me.

I have expressed my concerns with Stephen about Kody, and he told me that we should just block each other on line and be done with it. Which I did.

Stephen moved into a mutual friends house, that I met through a social group Stephen invited me to. To my shock, Stephen called me and asked me if I would like to move in with them, to help defer their rent. I was tempted, but I was taking care of my parents, who are ill. My Dad is also a Vietnam Veteran. I also reminded him that Kody hated me, and I reminded him that Rusty my dog, seemed under the weather. I was also in the process of moving at that time.

When I moved into this house, it seems like I met different people. I was new to a social media site that I was always weary of before. The Facebook. I was unsure of how The Facebook worked, and these little messages would pop up and say "People you may know." I assumed that people were trying to get in touch with me, and were from the sinking ship called My Space. So I clicked on those things, thinking they were trying to get in touch with me. I accepted friends request from people I didn't really know.

I did come across this Suzanne Jackson Person and she apparently owned this business, Bark Avenue. I know that a lot of dogs appeared in my news feed, which I didn't understand why, or that it was how the Facebook worked that would post things in my news feed. And they did look like sad dogs to me. Sweet, gentle, sad puppies. And if I saw a thin dog, I might have mentioned they look malnourished, I don't really recall though. I didn't accuse her of it. I have no idea where that delusion came from.

I don't really know what happened with Stephen or why he quit talking to me. He was in the hospital, and he was talking to me, after he got out of the hospital, I rang him at home to see if he was okay. He said he was and thanked me for asking, that was the last thing I heard from him. And I suspected that Kody was the reason for that.

Later, another friend from My Space connected with me. I liked him, he seemed nice. I hadn't talked to that Suzanne Woman in a while and I also had a second Facebook account that was created when I had Friend Caster. So I used that instead of the Facebook. Well, I didn't go through deleting everything and everyone and juggle all of those things, I had forgotten all about the one account, until recently. My dog, Rusty got the cancer and a fortune was spent in medicines trying to save him, but he died in November, 2014, then I find those libel posts made about me right after he died ? Yeah, I was pissed. And stupid me thinking that anyone on the Internet would be sane or reasonable. Because I truly didn't remember that person, which was also why I confronted her. Now I am starting to remember why I disliked her.

I recently came across a post that Suzanne made over a year ago, I confronted her on it, because what she wrote was libel, and all hell broke loose with her.

I had no idea that she had the cancer and it didn't matter. The point was, she wrote something, about me, that was untrue, and I tried to iron it out with her. Instead of ironing it out, she became very belligerent and started spouting these profanity laden tirades at me and then started name calling. Totally irrational behavior. No mention of the cancer. So I posted to my friends what she said, and it upset one of my friends so badly, I deleted the post out of respect for him and his feelings. Well then I started getting a barrage of strange requests which seemed odd, because some people were deleting me, while other people were adding me, and all kinds of nonsense was going on. Then posts I had were being reported for containing nudity, and none of them did, and none of them were blocked nor removed. One of the posts wasn't even of a person, and two of the other post were people in a tank top. Imagine that... So much for having a thing about that. I don't post nudity, I don't even posts pictures without clothes on, and I don't even shower nude. So amusing when liars lie. You never know what they will come up with.

Well as time went on, there was this person "trolling me" I didn't even know what that was until I looked it up and thought "hmm, how hypocritical ?" Anyway, only then did I learn that Ms. Jackson had the cancer. But again, that didn't matter to me. Should I just suddenly start to have feelings of commiseration for someone that was so hateful, rude, and ignorant to me ? I mean sure, it is unfortunate that she had the cancer, although, I am sure she's like most of the other world, buying and  eating what she wants to support Monsanto poisoning people, and smoking to support the very industry that is making people sick, to help support the other industry, Chemo therapy companies ? But I don't go about bashing the hell out of people, then saying my dog has the cancer when they retaliate. I don't go about bashing people. I am an adult, and yet all those people look like adults and proclaim they are, but act like immature children.

While all that was going on, I was looking into these people and investigating them, since I can access things that are a lot more reliable than public records, and in some very special cases, sealed even. But that's not relevant really. I did also speak to an eye witness that reported to me that he saw her with his own eyes, abuse a dog that she was grooming. I don't know the specifics, but I did post that into status updates that was only visible to friends.

It wasn't long before it was coming to my attention that there were screenshots being fabricated and clothed together. Then someone I don't know, popped up and that person claimed it was my Mother. Well, that's getting dangerous and total insanity. And also, I had those posts visible to only certain people, and they were re-posted to others who then wove them from pure cloth. But I'm the troll. Talk about your delusions of grandeur. And my Michael Blumenthal account hadn't been used in years. And that's my real name. I am part Jewish, so technically what is being done is a hate crime, especially in the state of Missouri.

And I see there's an update from Stephen. No idea where that came from either. Stephen tells me not to talk to him, and says he never wants to hear from me again, then blocks me, then a few months later, I see him in "Friends you may know" with "Accept friend" button. Stephen told me when he liked me to not click that unless I know them, and while I did know him, I doubt he was sending me a request. He explained it that somehow, it thinks you might know someone and tries to connect you. It's all complicated. But the point is, he says those things, blocks me, then unblocks me. And he did make a comment on a post I made to a friend showing a certain bag of potato crisps that had screen names of two people on there. And he didn't say much, and I didn't expect him to say anything. I can accept that he's still immature and under the influence of his little bald friend that wants to be a woman, and uses several names, and has a gender identity crises, that's fine. But trying to say that I am gay, when I have told him I am not, more than once, and he constantly tries to "out" me when there is nothing to "out" me about. For the record, I am asexual, not that it's anyone's business.

But yeah, I still care about that person more than he will ever understand, and this is just one more betrayal that can have him in some serious criminal trouble. I will however explain to the police that he does have some issues unresolved, I won't post them here, out of respect for him, but they are on that Chris Andoe blog "Tales from the Emperor". Definitely a swelled head, and he got it part right. Those are tales. Whale of tales.

I don't even know who Chris Andoe is, but he has crossed the line, and while I did turn up a California address for him, for his sake he better be in Missouri or what he did becomes a federal infraction.

And for the record, I did not know Stephen's Mother had the cancer, and I never asked. He did tell me she passed when he was young, but I didn't know why. And I didn't know this Ms. Jackson had the cancer until just recently either. So that whole theory is ridiculous. But don't throw cancer in my face trying to create a commiserating story. I have lost everyone in my family due to the cancer, and I myself have been on the brink of the cancer and had a scare so intense, that I quit eating anything that had to do with Monsanto. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs. Nothing left but food and water. So I eat non GMO or totally organic, depending on how my body reacts to what, and I try to educate others so they don't go through the Crohn's like lavatorial shenanigans, or throw up blood and actually get probed and prodded by oncologists. I have lost EVERYONE in my family, including two dogs to the cancer, so don't think that your case is something special. I don't go around trying to get commiseration from others, and I have a conscious and compunction.

Well, Stephen, I won't ever understand you. I just swallow it as your recreational habit and your own mental illness that was posted about you. I hope you clean up one day, get some help, and grow up. I do care about you. Remember what I said to you at Murdoch Perk ? I won't forget what you said and have done for me.

And as for that Diet Pepsi, Leon Braxton, He is a thief. He stole a large sum of money from a social group I attended and he also embezzled money from the LGBT youth program. He also attacked a very dear trans-gendered friend of mine. I never spoke anything of him that was untrue, and when I did speak about him, It was to bring attention to the fact what he did. He stole from my friends, and from the group, he embezzled from a youth group, which makes it worse, and he attacked a trans-gendered person and constantly harassed her.

***UPDATE 12/2/15***

Meeshu Bono-Thompson has been familiar with Javert for many years, going back to gay.com, and posted a response to Javert's blog after calling the O'Fallon PD in an attempt verify or debunk Javert's claims of filing a complaint against Jackson.

Facebook Suggests Penises You May Know (NSFW)

Facebook became a lot more interesting for my friend Adam Sampson, a grad student in Louisville, when  penises began popping up in the "People You May Know" window.

I'm wondering if Facebook will penalize people for posting screenshots of images pulled from Facebook.

"I was just looking for a friend, not syphilis!" Sampson quipped.

Vital Voice: Inside & Out

Last month I left Vital Voice after a firestorm erupted over my exit interview with former Rehab co-owner Jim Weckmann, and now that I'm no longer with the magazine I'm free to share some opinions. For my readers outside of the area, the glossy Vital Voice Magazine is the dominant LGBT publication in the St. Louis and Kansas City markets, but it began as a community newspaper much like The Bay Area Reporter or The Gayly.

Old vs. New Media

There's a vocal contingent in St. Louis who bitterly resents publisher Darin Slyman and the magazine in general for scrapping the original format for the lifestyle magazine concept. My answer to that is if you wanted the old version you should have supported it. Publishing and distributing requires advertising dollars, and former publisher Pam Schneider went $150k into debt to keep the community paper going and people still complained incessantly and expected everything for free. She went on to heavily subsidize the now-defunct LGBT Center of St. Louis by allowing them to pay less rent than what they owed, but when she finally sold the building many made her out to be a heartless, greedy landlord.

Enraged & Entitled

On the inside I witnessed the odd mix of hostility and entitlement firsthand. A perfect example is when the head of a now-defunct theatre company sent us a scathing letter saying we should be ashamed of ourselves for not covering The Normal Heart.

But we had covered it numerous times, and had even interviewed him. He was so disgruntled, it seems, because we didn't provide even more free publicity. Publisher James Lesch, normally the one who strives to calm the waters in these situations, sent a firmly worded rebuttal to the theatre's entire board, culminating with a demand for an apology. No apology was received and the company wound up folding within months.

Year after year the magazine gives free coverage for community festivals, whether they do business with the company or not, but despite choosing another, non-LGBT publication as their official sponsor, one committee was furious with Slyman for not getting national exposure for their event through his partnership with The Advocate -  a perk he provides for festivals who choose VV as their official sponsor. As an apparent result, tickets we were to receive for the VIP tent were "unavailable" and our excited, fresh-faced interns were told they couldn't hand out sunglasses and magazines at the festival.

A Tale of Two Cities

"I don't know if I should even let you in" snarled a notoriously bitter queen working the door of a popular Grove nightclub upon seeing Slyman approach. She was one of several affiliated with a local St. Louis LGBT blog who miss no opportunity to heckle Slyman and his staff, mostly over social media. At least the queen at the door delivered her hostility directly, unlike the others in the group who hide behind keyboards where they call VV writers "horrible people" and sometimes send hate mail under pseudonyms.

Meanwhile, Kansas City is warm, hospitable and lucrative - and they've even tried to get the magazine to relocate their base of operations there.

In the Black

The old Vital Voice was on the verge of folding. Darin Slyman was willing to save it, but not willing to go bankrupt to do so, and Schneider's example proves that one can give until it's gone and there's little appreciation in the end. Even in a community-minded business, you have to take care of business, and yourself.

Speaking for Myself

I know a few former VV employees who weren't happy when they left, and I don't claim to speak for them. I'm only sharing my own thoughts and observations.

While on the roster I wasn't permitted to speak in detail of the inner workings of the company, and despite the constant heckling we were to stay above the fray. Darin is not one to complain or to show emotion, but the way he's been treated by some in St. Louis is ridiculous and horrible, and I didn't want to officially close the chapter on my time working with him without first saying my piece.

Vital Voice is a business like any other. It employs people that have to get paid, and trains interns who go on to successful careers. You're entitled not to like them, but you're not entitled to anything more.

For my part, I'm enjoying the pivot to politics via AMERICAblog.com, while reserving my local pieces for this blog where I no longer have to worry about skittish advertisers. I've lived all over and the biggest quirk I've found about St. Louis is the insistence that certain things aren't discussed. I think we're all better off speaking freely.

Bad Blood in Belleville

Velvet Love, the reigning Queen of Metro East Pride, poured all she had into the Metro East Pride fundraiser at Club Escapade. She packed the venue with friends and family and bought $400 worth of shots for the audience. When she asked to say a few words MEPSI President Sarah Sowell said no, only the emcee could speak. Then, when the audience wanted an encore from Love, Sowell cut her off at the pass. "Nevermind. Lady Luscious has got it. We don't need you."

With that Love removed her crown and handed it to Sowell. "Here. Take the crown. I don't want to be part of this anymore."

To call Sarah Sowell polarizing would be an understatement. Past board members call her the biggest bully around, and point out the irony of her work with anti-bullying campaigns.

Sowell stepped down as president during the 2012 Pride event where she took the stage and announced her retirement, but said she would remain the "executive board member," a position that doesn't exist in the bylaws.

When her successor John Kreisel began his term he was met with Sowell's demands. "You need to include me on everything" she instructed.

Kreisel and the board didn't acquiesce, and tensions continued to rise as the organization sought to grow the event beyond its roots as a block party for Club Escapade. Members sought to include other Metro East establishments including Bubby & Sissy's and Boxers, and to hold fundraisers, which turned out to quite lucrative, in St. Louis.

Twice during Kreisel's term Sowell attempted to get back on the board. After the board unanimously rejected her first attempt she tried again at a meeting held in the dining room of Kriesel's classic Craftsman bungalow. Even though her own nephew was on the board, the vote was once again unanimous in opposing her return. The livid Sowell cried and things became personal when she confronted her nephew about his vote.

The elegant John Kriesel was cautious about revisiting his time with the organization, but offered the following:

"I really enjoyed my time there, mostly, but the actions of certain individuals and the need to be so closely associated with a for-profit business made me uncomfortable."

Tensions only escalated after Allen Irby took the helm, when Sowell and Club Escapade owners, livid at the organization's outreach efforts to other businesses, began a campaign of posting negative comments about the leadership.

When the mayor offered to allow the festival to expand from three to five blocks, and move the stage to the fountain, which is the crown jewel of the town, Irby jumped on the opportunity.

"[Escapade owner] Harold called me from his lake house, drunk as a skunk, yelling about us moving 'his' stage." Irby recalled, going on to equate his rant about the stage to Gollum's rants about the precious.

"It's not his stage. He didn't pay for it!"

Former board member Bob Baker didn't mince words when it came to Sowell.

"As a member of MEPSI's board of directors, I was able to watch Sarah Sowell quietly cause turmoil within the board, and one by one, members of the board left amidst the drama. This was her well calculated plan so that she could replace the board with her own followers. Those that held her up on a pedestal and worshipped the ground she walked on. For Sarah, it's all about power and control. Now because of her, MEPSI will never be the same until once again she is removed from the board, and never allowed to participate again. Then and only then can MEPSI regain the respect that this organization once had within the LGBT community."

Adam Kaemmerer/ Olivia DeMornay
The nightmare still isn't over for former president Adam Kaemmerer, who only months ago had to yet again address Sowell's accusations of forgery and embezzlement when they were made an issue for his mother at the local school district where she worked.

Kaemmerer served as a volunteer for five years and received a community service award from the organization before being asked to join the board. After Irby left Kaemmerer was asked to take the reigns, but from day one Sowell was the elephant in the room.

"We [the board] met with the owners of Escapade, trying to mend fences, and they said 'Before we go any farther, Sarah Sowell must be involved as an adviser."

As a show of good faith the board agreed, and soon all meetings were being held at Sowell's home.

"She put on a great mask" Kaemmerer begins. "She was always saying how much she liked me and how I was such an asset to the organization."

The board decided to bring Sowell back as a voting member, and soon she began to question the use of petty cash as well as other ways in which the board handled money and banking.

One Sunday in February Sowell called an emergency meeting during a time when everyone knew Kaemmerer was at work. Former VP Jason Lewis recalled Sowell making the case that Kaemmerer had to leave immediately.

"I wasn't agreeing with what they were saying" Lewis begins. "She was saying he committed fraud and was forging checks, and I knew that wasn't true."

Like the others, Lewis described Sowell as a bully, but said he wasn't having it.

"I was the only drag queen on the board and I was going to speak my mind!"

In the end, though, one by one the board voted to remove Kaemmerer and replace him with Sowell. Lewis was the only dissenter with a "Fuck no!" vote that sealed his fate as well.

Despite all the years of service, the owners of Escapade immediately blocked Kaemmerer on Facebook, effectively slamming the door in his face, and he still struggles with the rumors about his character.

When the latest rumor hit his mother at work, Kaemmerer left a message on Sowell's cell phone threatening legal action if this continued.

"I didn't do anything wrong, and haven't had so much as a police officer visit my house."

Sarah Sowell did not return my request for an interview. When I asked Kaemmerer how she'd likely respond to the airing of these accusations he said, "She's always the victim, despite the fact she's the source of all the turmoil. Publicly she's going to want to be rocked to sleep and comforted. Privately she's going to plot revenge."

Despite everything, Kaemmerer would like to see the organization succeed, and would go back, on one condition: "They'd have to clear the whole board and start over."

Any such resolution seems highly unlikely. There were discussions in the past about alternating the event between Belleville and Alton, but Sowell and Escapade wouldn't even accept the stage being moved around the corner, and moved it back to the bar at the first opportunity.

"Despite the lofty name, Metro East Pride is really nothing more than a block party for Escapades" Allen Irby lamented.

***UPDATE***

A Facebook group calling for a boycott of MEPSI and Club Escapade was created.
